Supporting Adults After a Brain Injury

The effects of a brain injury can be wide-ranging and very individual — affecting memory, concentration, fatigue, communication, confidence and daily routine, often long after the initial recovery period. Families frequently tell us how hard it is to find the right kind of everyday support. This page explains, honestly, how our adult day service may help — and where it is not the right fit.

What We Are — and What We Are Not

It is important to be clear: we are not a clinical, medical or neuro-rehabilitation service. We do not provide therapy or rehabilitation. What we offer is a calm, structured and sociable daytime environment with experienced, supportive staff.

For clinical rehabilitation or specialist advice, the person's medical team is the right starting point, and organisations such as Headway (the brain injury association) provide specialist information and support. We are happy to work alongside the support a person already has.

How a Structured Day Can Help

Within that scope, a familiar, well-paced day can genuinely support wellbeing for some people living with the longer-term effects of a brain injury:

  • A predictable routine and familiar faces can reduce uncertainty
  • A gentle, flexible pace that allows for rest and fatigue
  • Meaningful activity adapted to the individual's abilities
  • Social connection, which can ease isolation and support confidence
  • A freshly prepared meal and a supportive environment

Built Around the Individual

We take time to understand each person — including how a brain injury affects them day to day, what helps them feel settled, and their communication needs — and shape the day around them. Nothing is compulsory, and the pace is led by the person.

Support for Families

A brain injury affects the whole family. A reliable day service can provide planned respite and reassurance for those providing care at home. Our carer support guide has more on this.
